[ET Net News Agency, 17 December 2018] HK stocks closed virtually unchanged on Monday
morning session in quiet trade despite the 500-point plunge of the Dow on Friday. The Hang
Seng Index opened up 83 points to 26,178. It briefly dipped to an intraday low of 26,002
(down 92 points), and then rose to an intraday high of 26,186 (up 91 points).
The Hang Seng Index ended up 7 points or 0.03% to 26,102. The H-share index rose 27
points or 0.3% to 10,386. Half-day turnover decreased to HK$31.2 billion from HK$34.2
billion on Friday.
HSBC (00005) gained 0.5% to HK$64.4. HKEX (00388) nudged down 0.1% to HK$232. Tencent
(00700) slipped 0.2% to HK$308.2. China Mobile (00941) inched down 0.1% to HK$74.85. AIA
(01299) fell 1.2% to HK$63.3.
China announced to suspend additional tariffs on US-made vehicles and auto parts,
triggering the downward adjustment of manufacturer's suggested retail price. Geely
Automobile (00175) fell 2.6% to HK$14.1. BYD (01211) sank 3.3% to HK$55.3. Brilliance
China Automotive (01114) dipped 3.4% to HK$6.01. Dongfeng Motor (00489) added 1.5% to
HK$6.98. BAIC Motor (01958) 1.1% to HK$4.36.
Macau gaming counters fell across the board. MGM China (02282) declined 2.3% to
HK$13.62. Galaxy Entertainment (00027) slipped 2% to HK$50.15. Sands China (01928) shed
1.3% to HK$34.85. Wynn Macau (01128) dropped 1.3% to HK$18.16. Melco International (00200)
retreated 0.7% to HK$15.08. SJM Holdings (00880) was unchanged at HK$7.28. (KL)
