[ET Net News Agency, 21 October 2019] Hong Kong stocks closed firmer on Monday morning
session despite the 255-point drop of the Dow on Friday. The blue-chip index opened down 4
points to 26,715 and briefly dipped 61 points to an intra-day low of 26,658. It then
recovered all of its losses and rose 98 points at one stage, hitting an intra-day high of
26,818.
The Hang Seng Index ended up 86 points or 0.3% to 26,806. The H-share index rose 30
points or 0.3% to 10,570. Half-day turnover decreased to HK$35 billion from HK$39 billion
on Friday.
Blue chips were mixed. HSBC (00005) nudged up 0.3% to HK$61.1. HKEX (00388) jumped 1.9%
to HK$242.8. Tencent (00700) fell 1% to HK$327.6. China Mobile (00941) rose 0.4% to
HK$66.4. AIA (01299) put on 1.3% to HK$76.35.
China Life (02628) soared 5.2% to HK$19.74 after it issued a positive profit alert.
Other insurers were also boosted. Ping An (02318) edged up 0.1% to HK$94.65. NCI (01336)
shot up 1.9% to HK$32.15. Both China Taiping (00966) and PICC & P&C (02328) gained 1.6% to
HK$18.1 and HK$9.7. (KL)
