[ET Net News Agency, 8 May 2018] HSBC Global Research raised its target price for Want
Want China Holdings (00151) to HK$4.7 from HK$4.3, and retained its "reduce" rating.
The research house raised its 2018-19 earnings estimates by 6-7% to mainly reflect
stronger dairy and other beverage sales assumptions, given that the overall dairy demand
has remained strong in the last few quarters. HSBC thinks this should lead to higher
restocking demand for Want Want.
In addition, the company has also introduced more new products in the last few months,
and the energy drinks under the Jindao brand. Although higher re-stocking and new products
should lead to a recovery in top-line growth in the short term, HSBC is concerned with the
structural market share loss of the company's core dairy beverage business, given changing
consumer preferences - from flavoured milk to UHT/pasteurised milk. (KL)
