[ET Net News Agency, 15 June 2018] Air China (00753) said it carried about 8.9 million
passengers in May, an increase of 8% from a year earlier but a decrease of 2.8% from the
previous month.
For the first five months of 2018, the airline carried an accumulated of 44.8 million
passengers, up 8.7% year-on-year.
Passenger capacity (measured by available seat kilometers (the ASK)) and passenger
traffic recorded a year-on-year increase of 12.6% and 11.6% respectively. The overall
passenger load factor was 78.0%, representing a decrease of 0.7 percentage points as
compared to the same period last year.
In terms of cargo operations, in May, cargo and mail traffic (measured by revenue
freight tonne kilometers (the RFTK)) and freight tonnage carried recorded increase on both
year-on-year and month-on-month basis. Cargo capacity (measured by available freight tonne
kilometers (the AFTK)) increased by 7.8% year-on-year. Cargo and mail traffic increased by
5.6% and the volume of cargo and mail carried increased by 4.2% as compared to the same
period last year. The cargo load factor was 57.6% in May, representing a year-on-year
decrease of 1.2 percentage points. (HL)
