HK stocks closed sharply higher on Friday morning session following the strong rally of the Dow overnight.
The Hang Seng Index ended up 290 points to 23,122, off an intra-day low of 23,041 and high of 23,189. The H-share index also rose 62 points to 11,392. Half-day turnover reduced slightly to HK$47.5bn from HK$49.9bn on Thursday.
By 11:32 a.m., the southbound quota balance was RMB10.347bn, while the northbound quota balance was RMB12.043bn, accounting for 98.5% and 93% of the daily allowed quotas respectively.
BYD (01211) was the most active stock in the morning, with HK$2.79bn worth of shares changing hands. The stock dived 30% yesterday, but rebounded 17% to HK$29.35 in the morning. BYD Electronic (00285) shot up 7.8% to HK$7.78.
Tencent (00700) added 3.6% to HK$115.9. It was the top blue chip winner. Li & Fung (00494) slipped 2% to HK$7.33. It was the worst blue chip performer.
Macau gaming players were higher amid the visit of China's President Xi Jinping to mark the 15th anniversary of the handover. Melco Crown (06883) rose 3% to HK$59.55. SJM (00880) added 2.4% to HK$12.2. Melco Int'l (00200) gained 1.4% to HK$17.26.
