HK stocks closed slightly lower on Tuesday with the benchmark index wiping out early gains in the afternoon and closing below the 22,000-mark.
The Hang Seng Index ended down 22 points to 21,831. The H-share index rose 47 points to 9,931. Turnover increased to HK$78.3 billion from HK$75.9 billion on Monday.
Market heavyweights were lower. China Mobile (00941) dipped 1.27% to HK$93.5, while HSBC (00005) edged down 0.16% to HK$60.55. Lenovo (00992) slid 3.38% to HK$6.57, being the top blue-chip loser.
Macau gaming stocks extended yesterday's rally on analysts' positive view on the sector. Sands China (01928) surged 8.59% to HK$27.8 and Galaxy Ent (00027) put on 3.94% to HK$23.75, making themselves the top and second-top blue-chip gainer. SJM (00880) picked up 3.9% to HK$6.12 and Wynn Macau (01128) soared 7.44% to HK$10.4.
Watches and jewellery counters benefited from rising visitor arrivals during the first five days of the Golden Week holiday. Larry Jewelry (08351) shot up 21.95% to HK$0.05. Time2U (01327) soared 16.95% to HK$0.345. H.K. Jewelry (08048) put on 10.56% to HK$0.157.
