HK stocks closed firmer on Thursday morning session following a slight dip of the Dow overnight. The benchmark index opened up 60 points at 24,381, led by Ping An's (02318) strong results. It then soared as much as 146 points to intra-day high of 24,466 on top of AAC Tech's (02018) rally.
The Hang Seng Index ended the morning up 86 points or 0.4% to 24,406. The H-share index rose 70 points or 0.7% to 10,527. Half-day turnover decreased to HK$50.2 billion from HK$61 billion on Wednesday.
AAC Tech surged 6.8% to HK$92.4. It was the top blue-chip winner.
Tencent (00700) said its 2016 net profit grew 47% to RMB10.5 billion, But the stock softened 1% to HK$222.8 despite a slew of research houses are still bullish for its outlook.
CKH Holdings (00001) edged up 0.6% to HK$97.05. CK Property (01113) put on 1.6% to HK$53.85. Both companies reported in-line earnings yesterday.
Ping An jumped 2.2% to HK$44.2 after it reported 2016 earnings growth of 15% to RMB62.4 billion. China Life (02628) added 1% to HK$24.55 ahead of its results report later today.
China Southern Airlines (01055) suspended trading of its shares on talks that American Airlines may buy stake in the Chinese carrier. China Eastern Airlines (00670) shot up 4.7% to HK$4.89. Air China (00753) gained 4% to HK$6.55.
