HK stocks closed sharply lower on Friday in tandem with the 559-point slump of the Dow overnight. The benchmark index opened down 662 points at 29,412. It regained part of the ground it lost and narrowed its losses to 494 points in the mid-morning, hitting the day high of 29,579. In the late afternoon trade, the index saw its losses widen and closed at the day low.
The Hang Seng Index ended down 1,093 points or 3.6% to 28,980. The H-share index fell 470 points or 4% to 11,247. Turnover soared to HK$320.2 billion from HK$256.8 billion on Thursday.
Blue chips fell across the board. HSBC (00005) edged down 0.7% to HK$47.3. HKEX (00388) dipped 5.4% to HK$473.2. Tencent (00700) sank 4.2% to HK$662.5. China Mobile (00941) slipped 2% to HK$53.7. AIA Group (01299) dropped 3.8% to HK$97.05.
Hang Seng TECH Index sank 542 points or 5.7% to 8,954. NetEase (09999) toppled 8.7% to HK$166. Kingsoft (03888) tumbled 7.5% to HK$54.4. Kuaishou (01024) plunged 9% to HK$308.8. Kingdee (00268) pounded 5.6% to HK$27.85. Alibaba (09988) declined by 4.5% to HK$232.4. Lenovo (00992) shed 4.4% to HK$9.81. Xiaomi (01810) weakened 5.8% to HK$25.3. Meituan (03690) retreated 8.2% to HK$340. JD.com (09618) eased 4.8% to HK$360.
