SoftBank launches over $11 billion high-yield bond issuance to raise funds for AI sector

The Economic Daily News special report on the 23rd: SoftBank Group has launched one of the largest corporate high-yield bond issuance deals in history to support large-scale investments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

SoftBank has begun marketing this bond deal to investors, and pricing discussions for the dollar-denominated portion are currently underway. According to sources, the group plans to raise more than $11 billion equivalent through this issuance, including $10 billion in dollar bonds and 1 billion euros in euro-denominated bonds.

This issuance is SoftBank's latest move in its frequent and active presence in the debt market this year, aiming to fund its nearly $65 billion investment commitment to OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, and to raise capital for more mergers and acquisitions in this sector.

SoftBank is not the only company rushing to the debt market for financing. According to a recent report by credit strategists at Goldman Sachs Group, global AI-related debt issuance has exceeded $575 billion by 2026. (rc)
