Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in the U.S., where President Trump is giving him a high-level welcome. The two leaders will hold closed-door talks on September 24 Eastern Time. A-shares weakened ahead of the Xi-Trump meeting outcome, with Shanghai and Shenzhen markets opening lower and continuing to fall. The Shanghai Composite Index dropped 0.93% in the morning session, barely holding above the 3900 level, while the Shenzhen Component Index fell 1.74%, and the ChiNext Index plunged 1.84%. The combined turnover of the Shanghai and Shenzhen markets in the morning session reached RMB1.0677 trillion, down RMB91.4 billion or 8% compared to the same period on the previous trading day.
A-shares of domestic insurers and Chinese securities firms also declined. Ping An (SSE:601318) fell 1.02%; Taiping (SSE:601601) dropped 1.7%; CICC (SSE:601995) declined 3.9%; CITIC Securities (SSE:600030) fell 1.5%.
