Awaiting Xi-Biden Summit, HK Market Sees HK$160 Billion Turnover; Concerns Over Low Expectations Lead Hang Seng Index to Close Down 72 Points at 24,761, A-Shares Drop Over 1% Ahead of Holiday

The Economic Information Daily reported on the 24th: The much-anticipated Xi-Biden summit has finally commenced. Chinese President Xi Jinping has embarked on a state visit to the United States, his first in 11 years, and was personally received by U.S. President Trump with high-level protocol. Markets had initially hoped for more breakthrough progress on bilateral cooperation, but the U.S. Treasury Secretary indicated the U.S.-China trade war truce might only be extended by two months. Ahead of the A-share market holiday closure, stocks declined early to reflect market sentiment, with the Shanghai Composite Index falling over 1.2%, losing the 3,900 level, and the Shenzhen Component Index plunging 2.3%. Amidst anticipation of the summit outcomes, Hong Kong's total daily turnover reached only HK$159.6 billion, marking the lowest level since May 5 this year. Concerns that the China-U.S. talks may yield results below market expectations led to a weak market.
