Citi Research reports that Tencent's integration of its native AI assistant, Xiao Wei, into WeChat can leverage its massive monthly active user base (MAU), proprietary social graph, and mature, proven mini-program business ecosystem. The brokerage believes that as agent-based commerce rises in China, Xiao Wei has the potential to unlock significant long-term monetization opportunities through transaction commissions and advertising; it maintains Tencent's target price at HK$765 and a "Buy" rating.
The report mentions that WeChat's neutral platform positioning and established vertical-sector partnerships are expected to provide distribution and transaction moats. In contrast, any independent agents launched in the future by Alibaba's (09988) Qwen or ByteDance's Doubao will face higher ecosystem resistance when attempting to become cross-application "super agents," as competing platforms structurally lack incentives to offer open application programming interfaces (APIs).
