According to a report by U.S. tech media The Information, citing sources, the Chinese government has signaled it may allow companies such as Alibaba (09988) and ByteDance to purchase NVIDIA's (US.NVDA) new RTX Pro 5500 chips. The report said that recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology requested certain companies to report their planned procurement quantities and purposes for the RTX Pro 5500, and indicated to some companies its intention to approve such purchases.
The RTX Pro 5500 is a professional workstation GPU based on NVIDIA's Blackwell architecture launched this month, equipped with 84 GB of GDDR7 memory and 21,760 CUDA cores; it is primarily designed for AI inference, simulation, and image processing tasks in workstations and does not fall under the data center accelerator category.
