After being intercepted, suspected explosives were found in the vehicles, and five men were arrested on suspicion of terrorism. Police are investigating whether the Iranian government was involved.
On Sunday (27th), police received a public report that three suspicious vehicles were heading towards RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, England. Police subsequently cordoned off the area, and the army's explosive ordnance disposal unit arrived to inspect the vehicles. Dozens of nearby homes were also evacuated.
Sources said police believe this was a serious attempted attack, only thwarted shortly before implementation, and are investigating the motives behind the incident.
