Japanese Finance Minister: Yen Weakness Remains a Concern, Japan and U.S. to Maintain Communication, Committed to Ensuring Orderly Foreign Exchange Market Operations

Economic Information Daily, special report on the 29th: Japanese Finance Minister Hayashi Masatsugu said on Tuesday that the weakness of the yen remains an ongoing concern, and Japan and the U.S. will maintain close contact to seek to preserve order in the foreign exchange market.

Hayashi Masatsugu stated that, as Prime Minister Takato Shoko recently indicated, she also agrees that the yen being undervalued is an issue, 'We will continue to maintain close communication between Japanese and U.S. financial authorities and are committed to ensuring orderly operations in the foreign exchange market.'

Hayashi Masatsugu spoke with U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent last Friday (25th), during which she informed Bessent that Takato Shoko had stated she is not a 'reflationist,' seen as an assurance to Bessent that Takato is not seeking to implement unconstrained expansionary policies. (yc)
