Geely's decline widens to 8%, leading self-developed battery EV stocks lower, as mainland releases new battery development plan

Geely Automobile (00175) is down 8.5%, trading at HK$14.80. The stock has traded about 52.38 million shares, involving HK$795 million.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and six other departments jointly released the "15th Five-Year Plan for the Development of New-Type Batteries" yesterday, setting a target for 2030: continuous enhancement of full-chain innovation capabilities, new breakthroughs in advanced electrode materials and novel electrolytes, significant progress in new-system battery research and development, initial large-scale application of all-solid-state batteries, and long-life lithium batteries achieving a cycle life of 15,000 cycles.

Earlier reports suggested that approvals for new energy storage battery projects may tighten, with projects still in the planning stage and not yet officially commenced possibly being temporarily suspended, while projects that have completed filing and are under construction remain unaffected.

Recently, stocks related to the "de-Ningde" speculation and self-developed battery projects have come under significant pressure and corrected sharply; Nio (09866) fell 5.6% to HK$26.86; Xiaomi (01810) declined 2.6% to HK$25.20; Li Auto (02015) dropped 2.4% to HK$44.62; ZD Tech (02650) fell 7.1% to HK$8.08.

*Collective correction in self-developed battery concept stocks including Geely, Nio, and Xiaomi*

Nio recently announced that it has entered into formal agreements with certain subsidiaries under Geely Holding Group regarding strategic transactions in battery swapping and charging businesses. Subsidiaries under Geely will contribute their entire equity stake in Yiyi Interactive Technology (Chongqing), plus RMB 640 million in cash, to subscribe for newly issued equity in Nio Energy.

Additionally, some Li Auto models have shifted to using batteries from Sunwoda (Shenzhen: 300207) and self-developed battery solutions; newly launched Xiaomi SU7 and YU7 models no longer use CATL batteries, instead adopting Xiaomi's Longjia battery system, with cells supplied by CALB (03931) and Sunwoda.

Currently, the Hang Seng Index stands at 24,490, down 152 points or 0.6%, with main board turnover nearing HK$66.7 billion. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index is at 8,166, down 50 points or 0.6%. The Hang Seng Tech Index is at 4,247, down 48 points or 1.1%.
