This fundraising comes just months after OpenAI completed a $122 billion financing round at the end of March this year. That round achieved a post-money valuation of $852 billion, with investors including SoftBank, Nvidia, and Amazon, committing $30 billion, $30 billion, and $50 billion respectively; OpenAI's original plan announced in February this year was $110 billion with a pre-money valuation of $730 billion.
OpenAI CEO Altman stated earlier this month that the company will not go public this year, considering it inappropriate to push for an IPO while AI safety concerns remain prominent. The latest fundraising is seen as interim financing during the IPO delay, supporting the company's continued investment in AI models, computing power, and infrastructure. If the $1.4 trillion pre-money valuation is achieved, OpenAI's valuation will rise significantly compared to the end of March and could surpass Anthropic's recent private market valuation of approximately $965 billion.
