According to Bloomberg, citing sources, U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) startup OpenAI, after postponing its initial public offering (IPO) plans, is seeking to raise at least $30 billion in a new funding round, pushing its enterprise valuation to around $1.4 trillion (excluding funds raised in this round), potentially surpassing its market rival Anthropic once again.
This new round of fundraising comes just months after OpenAI raised $110 billion in February this year at a pre-money valuation of $730 billion. Investors in that round included SoftBank (US.SFTBY) and Nvidia (US.NVDA), each investing $30 billion, while Amazon (US.AMZN) contributed $50 billion.
OpenAI's valuation has surged dramatically—just one and a half years ago, the company was valued at around $300 billion. Based on the current $1.4 trillion valuation, this represents a 3.67-fold increase. At the beginning of last year, OpenAI raised $40 billion at a $300 billion valuation, a deal hailed as one of the largest private company fundraisings in history.
