After having lunch on Tuesday (March 29) with more than twenty Silicon Valley leaders, Trump stated that existing laws are sufficient to protect Americans from the potential risks of AI. Attendees included Anthropic CEO Amodei and Nvidia (US.NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang.
When briefly meeting reporters with the guests in the East Room of the White House, Trump said: 'Some people think there should be a lot of self-regulation, and agencies such as the Department of Justice and the FBI already provide regulation, but self-regulation is very important.'
As an alternative, Trump and the attendees signed an agreement. House Speaker Johnson said the agreement outlines several voluntary commitments from the industry, including implementing 'strong internal controls and multiple internal and external reviews.' Johnson said the text of the agreement will be released later.
Other tech industry attendees included Meta (US.META) CEO Zuckerberg, Palantir Technologies (US.PLTR) CEO Karp, and OpenAI President Brockman. (rc)
