The U.S. will release September's non-farm payroll figures tonight. The market generally expects an increase of 90,000 jobs, lower than August's 162,000. Some economists also believe that due to August's unexpectedly strong data, seasonal adjustment factors might lead to a downward revision of the August figure.
Previously, as the U.S. Federal Reserve adopted a dovish stance, the probability of a 25-basis-point rate hike by month-end has dropped to only about 26%. Ahead of the non-farm payroll release, Hong Kong property stocks followed the broader market lower. Even New World Development (00017), which earlier benefited from divesting 11 SKIES, turned negative; New World dropped 4.5%, to HK$5.775; Henderson Land (00012) fell 3.2%, to HK$25.88; CK Asset (01113) declined 1.9%, to HK$45.86; Hang Lung Properties (00101) dropped 3.1%, to HK$6.465; Kiu Tsui (01997) fell 1.8%, to HK$29.96; Sino Land (00083) declined 2.6%, to HK$10.03.
Currently, the Hang Seng Index stands at 23,955, down 658 points or 2.7%, with main board turnover exceeding HK$105 billion. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index is at 8,022, down 197 points or 2.4%. The Hang Seng Tech Index is at 4,147, down 106 points or 2.5%.
