Nvidia (US.NVDA) rose 3% last Friday (2nd), briefly touching a record high of $237.88, with its market capitalization briefly exceeding $5.7 trillion, closing up 1.3% at $233.95, drawing closer to becoming the first company in history to surpass a $6 trillion market cap.
In addition, Nvidia added an extra $150 billion to its existing share buyback program last week, expecting to complete execution by the end of the fiscal year 2028, increasing the remaining buyback authorization to $235 billion.
Meanwhile, September non-farm payroll increased by only 29,000, far below the market expectation of 90,000, causing expectations of a Fed rate hike to cool once again. Current interest rate futures indicate a 77% chance that the Fed will hold rates steady in October. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, representing the semiconductor sector in U.S. stocks, closed at 13,136 points last Friday, up 2.4%.
Currently, the Hang Seng Index stands at 23,859, down 112 points or 0.5%, with main board turnover exceeding HK$22.4 billion. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index is at 7,994, down 35 points or 0.4%. The Hang Seng Tech Index is at 4,137, down 20 points or 0.5%. (am)
