HKEX's Bonnie Y Chan: Strong IPO demand in tech and AI sectors, ongoing market reforms to maintain competitiveness

Economic Information Daily (May 5) - Bonnie Y Chan, CEO of HKEX (00388), said during her appearance at the Global Youth Power Summit that investors are currently paying significant attention to sectors such as technology and AI, resulting in very strong IPO demand in these sectors. She noted that technology stocks' share of HKEX's daily trading volume has grown from about 20% a few years ago to approximately 43% now, consistent with global investment trends.

Regarding investors' observations that the U.S. market is becoming somewhat overly concentrated in the AI field, she stated that the fundamental function of capital markets is to match capital with opportunities, and she hopes markets can be inclusive. The group focuses on ensuring that while welcoming all technology and AI enterprises, it does not come at the expense of other industries or smaller-cap companies.

On listing mechanisms, she mentioned that the group continuously reforms the market to maintain its competitiveness. Citing Chapter 18C of the Main Board Listing Rules as an example, she pointed out that the group can develop provisions tailored to meet the specific needs of different types of companies. (bn)
