SoftBank's Masayoshi Son Rarely Expresses Concern Over AI Safety Risks, Calls for Global Cooperation to Address Threats

HONG KONG, May 5 (ETNET) SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son said he is concerned about safety risks as AI rapidly gains more capabilities.

Speaking at the 'Technology and Society' forum in Kyoto, Japan, on Sunday (May 4), Son said AI capabilities are growing exponentially, and countries must now build mutual trust to jointly navigate this technology. He spoke alongside Michael Kratsios, White House technology policy advisor.

Son said: 'We can no longer afford the luxury of human conflict. If superintelligence falls into the wrong hands, it could become super dangerous.'

Son's warning is rare and reflects escalating external concerns following recent troubling security incidents involving AI models. Son has invested nearly $65 billion from SoftBank into OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, and for years has been promoting AI's potential to generate investment returns and assist humanity. (rc)
