The data shows that sales of pure gasoline vehicles declined 10% year-on-year, falling to 20.25 million units. Within just one year, their market share dropped from 52% to 49%.
In terms of electric vehicles, sales surged 12% year-on-year during the first half of the year, reaching 6.87 million units, accounting for 17% of the market. Hybrid vehicle sales also rose 10% to 7.27 million units, representing 18% of the market.
Regionally, gasoline vehicle sales declined the most in China, dropping 26%; followed by Europe, where they fell 13%.
Industry experts attribute the market shift to oil prices. Affected by the Middle East conflict, fuel prices have surged dramatically, prompting consumers to seek vehicle models with lower operating costs. (yc)
