The Economic Daily News reported on the 6th, citing sources, that Meta (US.META) and Microsoft (US.MSFT), two of Anthropic's largest corporate customers, are taking steps to reduce employees' usage of Anthropic's AI model Claude, posing a challenge to Anthropic.
Sources indicated that Microsoft executives earlier this year expected internal spending on Anthropic's technology to reach at least $1 billion. Since then, Microsoft has lowered this projected figure by more than one-third, as the company has required employees to reduce usage of Claude to save costs, shifting instead to Microsoft's in-house AI tools.
Sources revealed that the number of employees within Meta using Anthropic's programming assistant Claude Code has recently dropped sharply from about 60,000 to 30,000.
In addition, Meta has developed its own AI programming tools and the Muse Spark series of AI models, encouraging employees to use them, thereby reducing reliance on Claude.
According to data from Anthropic's draft IPO prospectus, nearly one-quarter of the company's revenue last year came from Microsoft and Meta, making this revenue extremely significant. (rc)
