US media: Trump demands Pentagon draft plan to strike Iran, possibly implemented before midterm elections, oil prices rise

The Atlantic cited two officials reporting that the White House has requested the Department of Defense to draft a plan to strike Iran, which could be implemented before the midterm elections. Coupled with storm-related shutdowns of部分 U.S. crude production capacity, oil prices have risen. New York crude rose to nearly $90 per barrel, currently at $89.7; Brent crude is currently at $102 per barrel.

Recently, markets expected Trump would avoid escalating conflict with Iran before the November midterm elections. The report stated that the potential scale, targets of the strike operation, and whether the U.S. will implement it are still under discussion. If a limited strike is carried out, larger-scale actions might follow after the midterm elections.

Meanwhile, data from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management showed that due to Tropical Storm Isaias, partial closure of crude oil production in the Gulf of Mexico has reduced daily output by more than 510,000 barrels, about a quarter of the region's production. (rc)
