US releases University of Michigan consumer sentiment index
《Economic Information Agency, special report on the 9th》US stock markets showed mixed performance yesterday, with the Nasdaq dragged down by technology and chip stocks, falling over 1%. Markets were also troubled by a sharp rise in oil prices and high US Treasury yields, increasing investor concerns about inflation and further rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. The Dow Jones closed up 51.77 points or 0.1%, at 51,231.64; the S&P 500 fell 36.41 points or 0.47%, at 7,765.36; the Nasdaq dropped 345.35 points or 1.25%, at 27,193.34. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index closed at 24,211, up 425 points or 1.8%, with turnover of HK$209.2 billion.
Regarding major economic events around the world, at 6:15pm Hong Kong time tonight, ECB Executive Board member Cioppo will join a panel discussion at the online seminar "Algorithmic Trading and Decentralized Finance". At 9:30pm, ECB Executive Board member Schnabel will deliver a speech and participate in a panel discussion.
On the data front, at 10:00pm tonight, the US will release the October University of Michigan consumer sentiment index, expected to decline from 48.1 to 47.6. (wa)
