Issuing bonds also has a positive side for the stock market

《Outlook》Currently, the actual holdings of the short-term, medium-term, and long-term securities investment portfolios in this column are 12.5%, 12.5%, and 27.5% respectively, and the overall situation is clearly bearish. There are market rumors that Tencent (00700) is considering issuing bonds of up to 5 billion USD to advance the development of its artificial intelligence business. In the short term, the market will primarily focus on the scale of debt and funding costs. Although issuing bonds can avoid dilution of equity, it will increase interest burdens; moreover, due to increased purchases of chips and expansion of data centers, profits are unlikely to be generated rapidly. It is estimated that investors will maintain a relatively cautious market attitude, waiting for the stock price to digest. In the medium term, this is a forward-looking and strategic positive move. The company has strong operating cash flow and a solid balance sheet, and the scale of financing should be within its controllable range, which can enhance realization efficiency and competitive barriers. In addition, choosing to issue bonds rather than reducing stock buyback scale is expected to help attract medium- and long-term investors into the market.

As a significant constituent stock of both the Hang Seng Index and the Hang Seng Tech Index, Tencent's bond issuance plan helps advance mainland China's AI strategy, reflecting strong confidence of large technology enterprises in the prospects of China's digital economy; in the long run, it can boost overall market sentiment and investment atmosphere in Hong Kong's technology sector. This not only helps alleviate market concerns about capital expenditure contraction in large tech stocks but also attracts foreign capital and northbound funds to reassess the value of Hong Kong tech stocks, thus limiting further downside space for the broader market. Yesterday, the stock price plunged sharply to 411.20 HKD, barely holding above the low of 411.00 HKD on June 26. The short-term situation is indeed clearly bearish, and the bearish pattern of "lower lows" is still unfolding. This column believes whether the stock price breaks downward (which could be a false breakdown) is not the key point; what we should carefully observe is whether the stock price can quickly turn strong and stabilize above the lower Bollinger Band on the weekly chart.
