Geely rises nearly 5%, Leapmotor gains 4%; People's Daily comments on Huawei car controversy saying car brake pedals should never break

Automotive stocks rose collectively, with Geely Automobile (00175) up 5.2%, closing at HK$15.92, marking its second consecutive day of gains with a cumulative increase of 9%; Leapmotor (09863) rose 3.85%, closing at HK$36.14, also recording its second consecutive day of gains with a cumulative increase of 6.29%; NIO (09866) gained 4.9%, closing at HK$28.42, its second consecutive day of gains with a cumulative rise of 5.3%; BYD (01211) rose 2.5%, closing at HK$77.5, also marking its second consecutive day of gains with a cumulative increase of 6.3%.

Recently, the new car 'Zunjie V800', jointly developed by Huawei and JAC Motors, was revealed to have its brake pedal bracket breaking under forceful stepping. The official media published an article stating that brake pedals 'should never break during driving', criticizing rushed vehicle development for creating serious quality and safety hazards.

The article criticized 'rushed' new energy vehicles for excessively compressing research and testing cycles to seize market share, relying solely on simulation tests instead of real-road testing, thus leaving hidden dangers that ultimately burden consumers. The article emphasized that 'stability is a more lasting speed', pointing out that China's automotive industry needs cooperation to maintain its social reputation, and safety is the foundation that allows Chinese automobiles to move forward steadily; otherwise, it will be difficult to go further in market competition.

Additionally, China and the EU have reached a 'mutual understanding' on hybrid vehicle trade. According to EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, the number of Chinese hybrid vehicles entering the EU will be halved. According to Bloomberg, the EU plans to cap annual imports of Chinese hybrid vehicles at 350,000 units, effective as early as December 1, with the quota increasing by 6% annually for four years after the first year.

Currently, the Hang Seng Index stands at 24,425, up 214 points or 0.88%, with main board turnover of HK$14.576 billion. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index is at 8,223, up 75 points or 0.93%. The Hang Seng Tech Index is at 4,229, up 31 points or 0.76%.
