Goldman Sachs published a research report stating that it has raised its 12-month target price for Standard Chartered from the previous HK$276 to HK$282, maintaining a "Buy" rating.
The brokerage stated that for the third quarter of 2026, it expects the group's net profit (after deducting AT1) to reach $1.29 billion. Looking ahead, for the fiscal years 2026-2028, the brokerage expects earnings to be higher than the market consensus, primarily driven by its more optimistic view on revenue growth (mainly net interest income), partially offset by slightly higher-than-market cost expectations. As a result, the brokerage expects the group's statutory return on equity to be 14.3% in 2026, above market expectations, and 16.5% in 2028, also above market expectations.
The brokerage mentioned that, given the latest market dynamics, it has raised its medium-term net interest income and fee income forecasts, thus increasing its earnings per share forecasts for the 2026-2028 fiscal years by 1 to 2%, partially offset by higher operating expense expectations, while its credit cost expectations remain unchanged.
Currently, the Hang Seng Index stands at 24,285, up 14 points or less than 0.1%, with main board turnover exceeding HK$13.22 billion. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index stands at 8,161, down 6 points or less than 0.1%. The Hang Seng Tech Index stands at 4,128, down 40 points or 1%. (am)
