Tech stocks boost Hang Seng Index to rise over 100 points, Xiaomi up 5%, Alibaba up 4%

HK Economic Times Correspondent, Nov 14 - Despite Wall Street remaining weak overnight, with the storage sector continuing its downward trend and major banks posting mixed earnings that weighed on global markets, the Hong Kong market reversed its early losses and turned upward during the session, driven by strength in tech stocks. The Hang Seng Tech Index rose 2% to 4,219. The Hang Seng Index gained 114 points, or 0.5%, to 24,459, with turnover on the main board exceeding HK$99.5 billion.

Apple (US.AAPL) unveiled its HomeView smart home display and the new Apple TV 4K on Tuesday, both centered around the artificial intelligence assistant Siri AI, with both products scheduled for release on November 13. Alibaba (09988) and JD.com (09618), the two major e-commerce platforms, will jointly hold their 2026 Singles' Day press conference tomorrow (15th), simultaneously disclosing this year's core promotional mechanisms, subsidy levels, and merchant strategies—an unprecedented move in history. CCTV's new media platform "Yuyuantantian" published an article yesterday refuting claims that the recently reached agreement would reduce China's hybrid vehicle exports to Europe by more than half. The article pointed out that such calculations compare the agreement terms with projected export volumes, rather than using the 2025 baseline employed in over 30 rounds of negotiations between China and the EU. Auto stocks rebounded: XPeng Group (09868) rose 2.7% to HK$38.88, NIO (09866) gained 4% to HK$27.82, and Leapmotor (09863) edged up 0.6% to HK$36.24.
