The move is the latest in a series of measures by the Trump administration aimed at curbing fuel prices ahead of the November midterm elections, where affordability of the cost of living has become a key voter concern.
Speaking in Texas, Vance said: "We want this refinery to produce millions of gallons of commercial and military-grade fuel beyond its current output. This means lower costs for you and your family when flying around, lower costs for your daily commute, and more reliable energy supply."
The refinery, located in Tyler, Texas, about 322 kilometers north of Houston, currently processes approximately 74,000 barrels per day.
The White House and Delek have not immediately responded to questions regarding the specific funding amount for the expansion project or how much the refinery's capacity will increase. (rc)
