ETN News Agency reported on the 15th: After U.S. inflation data heated up, causing the yen to hit its lowest level this month against the U.S. dollar, Japanese Finance Minister Motoko Kato warned she is prepared to act again in the foreign exchange market if necessary.
Kato told reporters on Thursday morning in Bangkok ahead of the G20 meeting: "Our stance on the foreign exchange market is completely consistent with the message conveyed during the coordinated intervention with the U.S., and the U.S. currently stands with us. If necessary, we will act without hesitation."
Her remarks came after U.S. consumer prices recorded the largest five-month gain, weakening the yen. The yen briefly touched 158.95 against the U.S. dollar, but later narrowed losses as U.S. Treasury yields declined, currently trading at 157.73. (rc)
