SpaceX (US.SPCX) announced that its revenue for the third quarter ended September 26, 2026, surged 161% year-on-year to $14.575 billion, exceeding analysts' expectations of $12.72 billion. SpaceX's stock price rose over 8% in after-hours trading, while Tesla (US.TSLA) rose over 1%.
Artificial intelligence and superintelligence businesses became the main growth drivers, with revenue reaching $7.56 billion during the period, an increase of more than eightfold year-on-year; communications business revenue grew 69% to $5.248 billion, and its "Starlink" consumer user base increased to 13.6 million. Space business revenue was $1.767 billion. The company recorded a net profit of $4.4 billion during the period, far exceeding market expectations and a significant improvement from the second-quarter loss of $541 million.
Operating profit for the period was $2.791 billion, and adjusted EBITDA reached $8.809 billion. However, the company's capital expenditure in the third quarter was as high as $19.593 billion, with AI business accounting for $16.444 billion, reflecting the company's continued heavy investment in computing infrastructure.
Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, said on Tuesday (20th) during the SpaceX earnings conference call that SpaceX and Tesla have established a special committee to study a potential merger. If ultimately pushed forward, this could become the largest corporate merger in history.
