[ET Net News Agency, 20 September 2018] Credit Suisse lifted its target price for
SmarTone Telecom (00315) to HK$11.75 from HK$10, and upgraded its rating to "neutral" from
"neutral" given the higher mobile exposure.
The research house said HKT on 18 September announced new price plans for its high-end
brands. The key feature in the price changes is the re-introduction of fees (HK$50/month)
for availing unlimited data optionality which was cut to zero by HKT in September 2017.
Credit Suisse noted that this is the second price hike by HKT in the last four days. It
views the recent price hikes positively as these are the first price hikes over the last
three years. It expects other operators to also respond positively to HKT's price hike.
Being a pure mobile operator, Credit Suisse believes SmarTone is likely to benefit the
most from the price changes. It lifted its FY2018-20 earnings forecasts by 1-14%. (KL)
