[ET Net News Agency, 30 September 2020] Nomura lifted its target price for China Unicom
(CU)(00762) to HK$6 from HK$5 and upgraded its rating to "buy" from "neutral".
The research house said CU underperformed its peers in the past 12 months (down 36%
versus), while its fundamentals started improving since 2Q due to softened government
policies, relieving competition pressure, and healthy growth momentum in the industrial
internet business.
Moreover, Nomura lowered its 2021-22 5G BTS forecasts for CU by 22%/24%, and total capex
by 6%/8%. It thinks CU is most sensitive to capex savings due to its relatively weaker
balance sheet, and prudent investment helps the company to improve its ROI in the 5G era.
