In addition, to enrich product offerings and enhance liquidity, HKEX is encouraging the issuance of various types of ETF products and actively expanding into index businesses. It has also accelerated the pace of derivatives development. Since the beginning of the year, 38 new weekly stock options have been added, with 12 more stock option categories to be introduced in November, offering both weekly and monthly expiry stock option contracts. More stock indices will continue to be developed in the future, along with more short-cycle stock options, thematic futures and options.
*Aiming to move towards T+1 settlement cycle as soon as possible*
Regarding improving trading efficiency and market liquidity, HKEX is currently consolidating market views on shortening the stock market settlement cycle, aiming to lead the industry towards the T+1 settlement cycle as soon as possible to enhance capital efficiency in Hong Kong's stock market. Meanwhile, HKEX and its mainland partners are preparing to include Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) into the Shanghai-Hong Kong and Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect programs, as well as include RMB-denominated stock counters into the Hong Kong Connect program, with the hope of further broadening the investment scope of the Stock Connect programs.
As for RMB-denominated fixed-income assets, by 24 September, the issuance size of dim sum bonds listed on HKEX this year reached RMB 266.9 billion, representing a 14% year-on-year increase. The issuance volume for the full year is expected to reach a record high. Additionally, HKEX is actively preparing the first offshore RMB bond index. In commodities, the number of LME-approved delivery warehouses in Hong Kong has increased to 19, and the use of offshore RMB as collateral has been further optimized.
*Applying AI in market supervision and compliance monitoring*
In terms of infrastructure, HKEX is applying artificial intelligence in market supervision and compliance monitoring of listed companies to enhance operational efficiency. In payments, HKEX is collaborating with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority on a pilot project using "Digital Hong Kong Dollar" to pay pre-funded margins during post-market trading sessions, enhancing risk management capabilities in the derivatives market during non-banking hours. HKEX will also work closely with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority to accelerate the commercialization, internationalization, and modernization of Faster Payment System (FPS), upgrade the Central Moneymarket Unit (CMU), promote interconnection between local central securities depositories for equities and bonds, and unlock cross-asset synergies.
