Tuen Mun Town Hall | Bamboo in Resonance

Description

At the heart of this concert is the yangqin, joined by the zheng, erhu , percussion,  and other Chinese instruments to create a programme that brings together the elegance of traditional Chinese music and the vibrant colours of contemporary ensemble writing.

Featuring a wide range of styles and instrumentations, the concert includes the world premiere of <<Painted Skin>>, a double concerto for yangqin and zheng; <<Listening to the Rain>>, a double concerto for yangqin and erhu; and ensemble works such as <<Moon, Cloud, Star>>, Schubert’s <<Military March>>, <<Jiangnan Melody>>, <<Youth and You>> — a Hong Kong premiere adapted from popular music — and <<Dance of the Golden Snake>>. Together, these works reflect the imagination, energy, and creative spirit of a new generation of Chinese music performers.

The concert also features renowned yangqin virtuoso Ms Yu Mei-lai as guest artist, performing alongside Ng Chui-kwan, Yip Yim-ting, Lui Ka-yee, Ting Sin-ying, and other musicians.

The New Tune Dulcimer Orchestra was founded by a group of musicians who share a deep passion for the yangqin and Chinese music. Committed to promoting the art of the yangqin, the ensemble explores the instrument’s expressive potential in solo, ensemble, concerto, and cross-instrumental settings. With a vision that embraces both tradition and innovation, the ensemble presents newly commissioned works, fresh arrangements of classics, and dynamic stage performances, bringing the bright, agile voice of the yangqin closer to today’s audiences and adding a fresh, confident sound to Hong Kong’s Chinese music scene.
