HK stocks opened firmer on Wednesday despite the three major benchmarks from the US ended lower overnight. The Hang Seng Index opened up 64 points to 24,704. The H-share index rose 14 points to 11,137.
Oil majors fell on news that Zhou Yongkang was arrested for corruption. Zhou was one of the Politburo Standing Committee member and is affiliated with CNPC. PetroChina (00857) edged down 0.6% tp HK$10.38. Kunlun Energy (00135) added 1.5% to HK$13.46.
Cheung Kong (00001) nudged up 0.8% to HK$148.2. Hutchison Whampoa (00013) gained 1% to HK$107.8. Both companies are scheduled to report their earnings tomorrow.
