HK stocks closed higher on Friday morning session in heavy trade following the rally of the US equity markets overnight. The Hang Seng Index opened up 195 points to 29,214. It briefly soared 326 points to an intra-day high of 29,341, thanks to the strong rally of Tencent.
The Hang Seng Index ended up 231 points or 0.8% to 29,250. The H-share index also rose 129 points or 1.1% to 11,663. Half-day turnover increased slightly to HK$66.1 billion from HK$65 billion on Thursday.
China's Big Four lenders rose across the board. CCB (00939) added 3% to HK$6.89. ABC (01288) rose 1.4% to HK$3.64. ICBC (01398) jumped 3% to HK$6.24. BOC (03988) gained 1.3% to HK$3.82.
Tencent (00700) gained 2.2% to HK$400.4.
Insurers were also mostly higher, with AIA (01299) rising 1% to HK$65.95. Ping An (02318) rose 1.3% to HK$78.85. But China Life (02628) edged down 0.2% to HK$26.85.
Wharf (00004) went ex-rights and Morgan Stanley lowered its target price to HK$30. It dropped 4.1% to HK$25.8. Cathay Pacific (00293) gained 1% to HK$11.92 after the local carrier reported that its October passenger traffic growth of 6%.
Yixin (02858), a 20.9%-owned unit of Tencent, saw renewed selling pressure. It dipped 2.7% to HK$7.9, but was still above its IPO price of HK$7.7.
