HK 2-month exports volume up 3.3%; imports up 3.8%

The volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods for the first two months of 2015 rose 3.3% over the same period last year, whereas that of domestic exports drppped 0.5%. Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods rose 3.3%. Concurrently, the volume of imports of goods grew 3.8%, according to the Census and Statistics Department.
As the trade flows in January and February of each year tend to show considerable volatilities due to differences in timing of the Lunar New Year holidays, it is useful to analyse the trade figures for these two months taken together.
In February 2015, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods grew 6.8% year-on-year, whereas that of domestic exports fell 9.4%. Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods grew 6.6%. On the other hand, the volume of imports of goods fell 1.1%.
