Hong Kong stocks closed firmer on Tuesday morning session in tandem with the close of the Dow overnight. The blue-chip index opened up 88 points to 26,813 and briefly rose 118 points to an intra-day high of 26,844. It then gave up all of its gains and fell 27 points at one stage, hitting an intra-day low of 26,698.
The Hang Seng Index ended up 40 points or 0.2% to 26,765. The H-share index fell 21 points or 0.2% to 10,521. Half-day turnover increased to HK$43.6 billion from HK$35 billion on Monday.
Blue chips were mostly weaker. HSBC (00005) nudged up 0.4% to HK$61.4. HKEX (00388) edged down 0.1% to HK$242.4. Tencent (00700) added 0.6% to HK$326.8. China Mobile (00941) fell 1.4% to HK$65.4. AIA (01299) softened 0.2% to HK$75.05.
China Resources Land (01109) plunged 7.1% to HK$33.6 after the company placed a total of 200 million shares at HK$33.65 for HK$6.72 billion. Other China property counters were also dragged down. China Overseas Land & Investment (00688) shed 1.9% to HK$26.1. Sunac China (01918) dipped 2.5% to HK$35.1. Country Garden (02007) dropped 1.5% to HK$10.6. China Vanke (02202) fell 1.7% to HK$28.85.
