Hong Kong stocks closed virtually unchanged on Friday morning session despite the firmer close of the Dow overnight. The blue-chip index opened up 62 points to 26,910 and briefly rose 136 points to an intra-day high of 26,985. It then gave up all of its gains and fell 72 points at one stage, hitting an intra-day low of 26,775.
China released its 3Q GDP this morning showing the economy grew 6% compared to market consensus of 6.1% growth.
The Hang Seng Index ended down 24 points or 0.1% to 26,824. But the H-share index rose 3 points or 0.04% to 10,592. Half-day turnover decreased to HK$39 billion from HK$41 billion on Thursday.
Blue chips were mostly firmer. HSBC (00005) edged down 0.2% to HK$60.89. HKEX (00388) added 0.7% to HK$238.6. Tencent (00700) edged up 0.5% to HK$332.6. China Mobile (00941) rose 0.8% to HK$66.55. AIA (01299) nudged up 0.1% to HK$75.85.
UK's Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he has reached an agreement with the EU regarding Brexit. CK Hutchison (00001) fell 1.1% to HK$72.45. Power Assets (00006) shed 0.5% to HK$54.45. CK Infrastructure (01038) gained 1% to HK$56.15.
