HK stocks closed higher on Friday morning session following the firmer close of the Dow overnight. The blue-chip index opened down 10 points to 25,484 and then dipped to an intraday low of 25,314 (down 181 points). It then recovered all of its losses and touched an intraday high of 25,724 (up 229 points).
The Hang Seng Index ended up 204 points or 0.8% to 25,700. The H-share index rose 71 points or 0.7% to 9,974. Half-day turnover decreased to HK$48.7 billion from HK$54.9 billion on Thursday.
Blue chips were mixed. HSBC (00005) dipped 0.9% to HK$56.3. HKEX (00388) jumped 2.2% to HK$243.2. Tencent (00700) slipped 0.9% to HK$327.4. China Mobile (00941) nudged up 0.3% to HK$66.3. AIA (01299) rose 0.8% to HK$75.4.
Pharmaceutical counters were higher ahead of earnings reports. CSPC Pharmaceutical (01093) shot up 4.9% to HK$12.54. Sino Biopharmaceutical (01177) gained 4.2% to HK$9.44. WuXi AppTec (02359) jumped 5.9% to HK$76.75. China Resources Pharmaceutical (03320) shot up 5.1% to HK$7.83. WuXi Biologics (02269) added 4.4% to HK$82.45. 3SBio Inc. (01530) put on 2.4% to HK$11.94.
