HK stocks closed sharply higher on Thursday morning session despite the softer close of the Dow overnight. The benchmark index opened up 136 points at 24,563, which marked an intra-day low. It then saw its gains widen to 416 points, hitting an intra-day high of 24,844.
The Hang Seng Index ended up 361 points or 1.5% to 24,788. The H-share index rose 172 points or 0.8% to 9,931. Half-day turnover soared to HK$89.2 billion from HK$59.7 billion on Tuesday. The local market closed yesterday on a public holiday.
Blue chips rose across the board. HSBC (00005) jumped 1.2% to HK$36.65. HKEX (00388) added 2.4% to HK$337.8. Tencent (00700) gained 2.7% to HK$512. China Mobile (00941) climbed 2.3% to HK$53.5. AIA Group (01299) put on 1.9% to HK$73.65.
Chinese developers surged on strong house sales. China Jinmao (00817) soared 13.4% to HK$6.18. Times China (01233) shot up 12.7% to HK$16.14. Sunac China (01910) spiked 12.9% to HK$36.65. CIFI Holdings (00884) mounted 12.4% to HK$6.79. China Aoyuan (03883) swelled 9.5% to HK$10.26.
